College Democracy Coaches are the driving force behind our work in the classrooms
Our college volunteer Democracy Coaches bring relevant firsthand civic and advocacy experiences to their middle and high school students. This dedicated group brings unparalleled energy and enthusiasm to the classrooms each week. Their students become motivated to use the advocacy skills they that develop through our program to make changes in their communities now, and for the rest of their lives. Democracy Coaches develop close working relationships with their classroom teachers, providing support to the teacher, and gaining a valuable mentor.
We recognize the difficult challenges within education that require perseverance and thoughtful reflection. Thus, our competitive selection process entails recruiting, selecting, and training individuals who embody and can demonstrate the ability to continuously grow in each of Generation Citizen’s core values.

Chapter Directors are an integral part of the Generation Citizen program
These star volunteers serve as liaisons between their campus’ Democracy Coaches and the Generation Citizen staff, working directly with programming associates and managers to ensure that our program runs effectively. Chapter Directors are responsible for recruiting, selecting, and supporting college Democracy Coaches throughout the program. They lead the interview and selection process, ensure classes are effectively advocating for solutions to their chosen campaign topics, hold weekly meetings, and expand Generation Citizen’s reach within their university. We could not do our work without these exceptional volunteers.
