Beyond the Ballot 2020
How would you amend the Constitution?
During these challenging days, conversations about the importance of our democracy are happening everywhere. It is essential that every single one of us is able to participate meaningfully in our communities and in our democracy. Whether it’s the right to healthcare, recognition of undocumented people, the underrepresented rights of our planet or of people with different physical abilities, we must hold our elected officials accountable for a Constitution that reflects the people’s will, your will, and inspires you to participate in our democracy.
In What the Constitution Means to Me, playwright Heidi Schreck revisits her fifteen-year-old self, earning her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. By reviving these debates and engaging with real teenage debaters on stage, the play is re-introducing the concept of the Constitution as a living document to the next generation.
Particularly right now, as we are being challenged with real adversity, and as we observe the struggles of those around us, we are asking you to share your voice, and record a 15-second video of your response, then share it on social media with the hashtag #BeyondTheBallot.
