To implement our core program, GC pairs college volunteers (called Democracy Coaches or “DCs”) with secondary school teachers to lead our in-school action civics curriculum, using an innovative peer-to-near-peer mentorship model.
The benefits of having a Democracy Coach in the classroom are many
Serve as enthusiastic motivators and mentors for students over the course of the semester
Conduct in-depth research on the community issue chosen by students, ensuring that the class’ action and goals are informed and targeted
Offer perspective on the college application process and student experience, further encouraging students to pursue higher education
