Jamaal King joined Generation Citizen in November 2021 as the Special Projects Manager, where he supports the executive office in all strategic planning, communications and operational procedures.

For 20 years, Jamaal King has devoted his career to pursuing socioeconomic and environmental equity for low income, disconnected and court-involved youth and their families innovative civic engagement, leadership, recreation, education and vocational programs.

Jamaal spent the lionshare of his career with The Central Park Conservancy where he spearheaded a wide variety of youth, adult, family and corporate programs and events that serviced millions of park visitors annually. In 2015, Jamaal founded and directed Sports 2 Success, a non-profit organization whose mission and work was to empower disconnected youth (young people who are neither employed or in school) through job training and placement in entry-level sports industry careers. At the peak of the organization’s existence, Jamaal was contracted by the New York City Department of Probation as the Grant Administrator for the NeON (Neighborhood Opportunity Network) Sports initiative. The goal of NeON sports was to connect court-involved young people with NeON multi-service centers using sports as an intervention tool. Jamaal successfully oversaw the launch of the initiative in all New York City boroughs by coaching individual and non-profit sports vendors in all aspects of program and organizational administration.

In 2018, Jamaal made a conscious decision to dissolve the organization and leverage his expertise in fundraising, community program administration, organizational leadership and strategic partnerships to join Phipps Neighborhoods as Cornerstone Director because of their mission and work to “end the cycle of poverty.” In 2019 Jamaal received the “Rookie of The Year” award from the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development for his unparalleled success in fostering constituent programs, community relations and advocacy.

Jamaal was born and raised in New York City. He has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Public Relations from Utica College of Syracuse University. He is a proud husband and father of two children. In his spare time, Jamaal enjoys doing HIIT fitness videos on YouTube, reading, and going to local New York City parks.
