Dear Hiring Manager,
I am a cross-disciplinarian, want-to-be social designer, graduating in May 2019 from Hofstra University with three majors (Global Studies, Geography, Design), and high honors status.
My academic variety enables me to design for bigger ideas. Global Studies gives me the lens to dig under the surface of local and global affairs and provide ideological diversity. Geography enables me to explore ethnography and use the tools of GIS to facilitate building source-based arguments. Using design as a tool-kit, I have a unique comprehension of the work we are creating and the diverse audiences we are approaching.
Over the past three years, I have been creating digital solutions, facilitating community-based collaboration and, being an educator-in-training.
During my time at Ronik Design, I conducted social media and consumer landscape researches, created visuals to support digital campaigns and participated in meetings and note-taking. Prior to that, I practiced marketing and event-management at FindSpark by creating marketing visuals such as banners and flyers, organizing and executing events, and stimulating conversations on-site and online.
As an undergraduate student, I was a ‘Peer Teacher’ (teaching assistant) for two semesters to Professor Tom Klinkowstein (also President of Media A in New York City), delivering conceptual and ‘how-to’ lectures to classes of 15-20 students. Topics included web, social media and motion graphics new media technical presentations, as well as concept-building lectures on using triangulation to approach socially ‘wicked problems’ as part of a design brief.
My personal initiative is to create a leveled platform for teens of tomorrow.
Born in China, I was raised by a single mom who strived for an opportunity to go to college and divorced for she did not feel obligated to deliver a male child for her partner. The landscape of parental values and teens culture need to be reimagined especially in less developed communities. It is my inner drive to join Generation Citizen as a vital force in this revolution.
I can combine my inner mission with related experiences in raising social awareness through digital marketing. I would appreciate the chance to further discuss my qualifications with you in a personal interview. Thanks for your considerations and I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Coco Ye
