After conducting research, students identified that a strong peer mediation program could increase the effectiveness of school discipline, reduce suspensions, and generally improve the sense of belonging and connection within the school.

They organized an advisory council to determine the exact needs of their community and visited a school with a peer mediation program to learn how it could meet those needs.

Students in Mr. Jansen’s class identified how student disciplinary issues were handled as the focus issue for their community-based civics project.
