Why Policy and Advocacy?
Since its founding, Generation Citizen has established an effective civics education program proven to get youth more involved in our democracy.
GC engages in advocacy and policy work—building the demand for action civics—so that educators, philanthropists, and policymakers alike recognize the importance of educating young people to be active citizens. Our direct service program results make the case that action civics should become a staple of the educational curriculum across the U.S.
To ensure that every student has a high quality action civics education, we suggest that it must become a core element of the public school system. Our goals to that end are that:
1. Action civics is a core part of mandatory student assessments.
2. More funding (philanthropic and public) must be allocated to action civics.
