Carolyn O’Neil believes in the power of civics education to create a nation of engaged and united citizens. This passion brought her back to Generation Citizen in 2022, after previously serving as Program Manager for the New York team until 2018.
She brings with her more than fifteen years of experience in the nonprofit and public sectors, with a focus on education and civil rights. Prior to rejoining GC, she worked with the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Community Schools, where she managed partnerships with community-based organizations to offer wraparound services to students and families. She previously worked with Open Society Foundations, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and spent two years teaching English abroad in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program.
In her free time, Carolyn is a children’s novelist and volunteer citizenship exam tutor, and she enjoys reading, hiking, gardening, and exploring ways to build a more equal society.
