Kate joins the Generation Citizen team as a Program Manager with seven years of experience teaching a variety of Social Studies curricula. She began her teaching career in the Bronx, NY, before transitioning back to her home state of Pennsylvania and classrooms in Philadelphia and the Northeast. Kate has a passion for teaching Social Studies and Civics content and skills through the lens of citizenship, engagement, and community. A brief time in the Pennsylvania civics education non-profit world drove her from the classroom to GC, where she is excited to collaborate with teachers and students on empowering young people as key civic actors within our evolving democracy.
Kate graduated from Penn State University with Bachelor degrees in Secondary Education and Political Science. She furthered her studies at Teachers College at Columbia University, grateful for the opportunity to earn her MA in the Teaching of Social Studies using her classroom and students to examine how modern pedagogical tools might impact student engagement in Social Studies.
Kate now lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania with her husband and their dog, Fred–all avid Nittany Lion fans. Kate enjoys cooking family recipes, playing the cello, and reading books in the sunshine with lots of coffee.
